Project 02

DAYLIGHTING ANALYSIS

Learnt to identify passive design strategies for Daylighting and analyze the effect of comfort factors in a person and in a space relating to Lighting. Have the capability to criticize design of the space in terms of thermal comfort by referring to appropriate standards such as ASHRAE, MS1525 , UBBL and GBI.

Introduction

In this project 2, it was a group project for us to do a case study about a building like museum, church etc. The case study consists of the daylighting analysis of the building. Our group chose The Mecenat Museum by NAF Architects and Design which located at Hiroshima. It is a art museum and the idea of the building was structurally stable like folding one sheet of paper, origami, many time to make several corners, with models and three-dimensional structure analysis by computer.

Reflective writing

In this project 2, we understand that it is important to know the lighting system and also knowing how the sky condition, the openings of the building and also the climate of the site affecting the user experience and the lighting inside the buildings. Other than that, understand that passive design does not require mechanical heating or cooling. Buildings that are passively designed take advantage of natural climate to maintain thermal comfort. Incorporating the principles of passive design in building like Significantly improves comfort and Energy efficient.
